A Day Trip to Kraków – Poland’s Royal City
During the Czech-Japanese Surgical Symposia organised by the ICS (International College of Surgeons), we arranged a day trip to Kraków, Poland. The programme included a visit to Wawel Royal Castle, lunch at a local restaurant, and free time to explore Kraków’s historic city centre, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. A memorable day combining history, culture, and the charm of Kraków.
Day Trip Itinerary
- Departure from Třinec and arrival in Kraków.
Wawel Hill: The historic heart of Polish history, statehood, and cultural identity. We admired Wawel Cathedral, the traditional coronation site of Polish kings.
Wawel Royal Castle – State Rooms: A guided visit to the castle’s representative halls, which were used for royal ceremonies and official state affairs.
Three-course lunch: Lunch at a restaurant approximately a 10-minute walk from Wawel Hill.
Guided walking tour of Kraków’s Old Town and Main Market Square: Highlights included the Franciscan Church and Monastery, the Archbishop’s Palace at Franciszkańska 3, Jagiellonian University, the historic Cloth Hall (Sukiennice), known for its amber and other souvenirs, and St. Mary’s Basilica. Free time to explore the city at your own pace.
Departure from Kraków and return to Třinec.
